In this recently published article Innomech MD Tim Mead highlights some of the challenges in designing and building the world’s first automated manufacturing system for alkaline fuel cells.
The system assembles fuel cell stacks, comprising hundreds of layers each and has been built for AFC Energy as part of its EU-backed POWER-UP consortium to install clean energy, commercial-scale plants where hydrogen is used as a fuel source. The next phase of work is for Innomech to design and build an automated disassembly system enabling key components and materials to be recovered, regenerated and recycled.
